Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour For thickening the gravy
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation of Hamburger Steaks

  • In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Allow them to soak for a few minutes.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, add the ground beef, chopped onions, green bell pepper, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
  • Mix in the soaked breadcrumbs and milk, ensuring all the ingredients are well combined.
  • Shape the mixture into hamburger patties.

Cooking the Hamburger Steaks

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a bit of oil.
  • Place the hamburger patties in the skillet and cook them for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are browned and cooked through.
  • Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.

Making the Onion Gravy

  • In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of butter and melt it.
  • Add the thinly sliced onions and cook them until they become soft and caramelized.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to create a roux.
  • Gradually add the beef broth while continuing to stir.
  • Let the mixture simmer and thicken to create a flavorful onion gravy.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serving

  • Return the cooked hamburger patties to the skillet with the onion gravy.
  • Allow them to simmer in the gravy for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
  • Serve the hamburger steaks hot, with the onion gravy spooned over the top.
