Ingredients

Custard Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup whole milk (or any milk of choice)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for added sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)

Bread and Cooking Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread (brioche, challah, or thick-cut sandwich bread work best) Use slightly stale bread for better absorption
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil (for cooking)
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit for serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a shallow bowl or dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Place a slice of bread into the egg mixture and let it soak for about 20-30 seconds on each side.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a small amount of butter or oil to coat the surface.
  • Carefully transfer the soaked bread to the skillet, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and slightly crisp.
  • Repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter or oil to the skillet as needed.

Serving

  • Serve warm with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for better absorption, avoid oversoaking to prevent mushiness, keep heat at medium to ensure even cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
