  • Preheat the oven to 350F (180C) and grease and flour three round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients: wheat flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, food coloring, and vinegar.
  • Gradually add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms.

Baking

  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cooling and Frosting

  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans briefly before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Optional: Frost with cream cheese frosting for added decadence before serving.
