For the Strawberries

Macerating Strawberries

  • Combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir well to coat the strawberries with sugar and allow them to macerate for about 15 minutes.

Whipping the Cream

  • In another mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set this whipped cream aside.

Preparing the Mascarpone Mixture

  • In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese until it becomes smooth and creamy. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone cheese until well combined.

Assembling the Layers

  • Dip each ladyfinger into the brewed coffee and arrange a layer in the bottom of a serving dish or individual glasses.
  • Spread a layer of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers and add a layer of macerated strawberries. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with cream on top.

Refrigeration

  • Cover the dish or glasses with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Dusting with Cocoa Powder

  • Just before serving, dust the top layer with cocoa powder for a touch of elegance.

Notes

You can use frozen strawberries, just ensure they are thawed. Cream cheese can be a substitute for mascarpone, though the flavor will differ slightly. This dessert stays fresh for up to 2-3 days in the refrigerator. You may skip the maceration step if short on time or experiment by adding other berries or a hint of citrus for variations.
