Ingredients

Pasta and Sauce Ingredients

  • 12 ounces spaghetti or your favorite pasta
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional, for a fresh touch)

Instructions

Cooking the Pasta

  • Begin by boiling a large pot of salted water over high heat. Once boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Preparing the Sauce

  • In the same pot or a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Be careful not to let the garlic brown, as this can make it bitter.
  • If you enjoy a bit of spice, add the red pepper flakes to the sautéed garlic and stir for about 30 seconds to release the flavors.

Combining Ingredients

  • Return the drained pasta to the pot with the garlic butter mixture. Toss to coat the pasta evenly.
  • Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese, tossing the pasta constantly to ensure the cheese melts smoothly and forms a creamy sauce. If the mixture seems too dry, add some of the reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you like, add the lemon zest for a refreshing brightness that elevates the dish.

Garnishing

  • Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness.

Notes

To store any leftovers, place the Easy Garlic Parmesan Pasta in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat, adding a splash of water or broth to prevent it from drying out.
