Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5-2 pounds)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • spray Olive oil spray or cooking spray for spraying the air fryer basket

For Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • leaves Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional) optional garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C).
  • Flatten the chicken breasts to an even thickness by placing them between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper and pounding them gently.

Set Up Breading Station

  • In a shallow dish, whisk the eggs.
  • In another shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

Bread the Chicken

  • Dip each chicken breast into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
  • Dredge into the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breading adheres well.

Air Fry the Chicken

  • Spray the air fryer basket with a little olive oil spray.
  • Place the breaded chicken breasts in the basket in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch.
  • Cook for 10 minutes.

Add Marinara and Cheese

  • Carefully flip the chicken breasts over.
  • Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella.
  • Return the chicken to the air fryer and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.

Serve and Garnish

  • Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve hot with extra marinara on the side.

Notes

For best results, use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C). Let the chicken rest after cooking to keep it juicy. Don't overcrowd the basket for optimal crispiness. You may customize the breading with different spices or herbs as desired.
