Ingredients
  

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor) Use quality meat for flavor and moisture.
  • 1 medium onion, diced Enhances sweetness when cooked.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds flavor.
  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms (optional) Adds extra texture.

Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Dairy and Eggs

  • 1/2 cup sour cream Creates creaminess.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can be substituted for a different cheese.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Adds texture and flavor.
  • 3 large eggs, beaten Helps bind the casserole together.

Garnishes (optional)

  • 1/4 cup chopped pickles For garnish.
  • Green onions, sliced For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook while breaking it apart with a spatula for 6-8 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the cooked beef and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent. If using chopped mushrooms, add them now and sauté until softened.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to meld the flavors.

Mix and Bake

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, and beaten eggs. Whisk until fully incorporated.
  • Add the beef and onion mixture into the cheese and egg mixture. Gently stir to combine until all components are evenly distributed.
  • Prepare a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and pour the mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.
  • Optionally, sprinkle a little extra cheese on top.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes until set and golden brown.
  • Let the casserole sit for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped pickles and green onions if desired.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. Cool completely before freezing for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat at 350°F for 20 minutes.
