Ingredients

For the Slaw

  • 4 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup red cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup carrots, shredded
  • 1 cup green onions, chopped (about 4-5 green onions)
  • 1 cup bell pepper, diced (choose your preferred color)

For the Dressing

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce (choose your favorite brand)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Vegetables

  • Start by washing and drying the cabbage leaves. Remove the core and finely shred both the green and red cabbage. Aim for uniform pieces to ensure even mixing and a pleasant texture.
  • Peel and shred the carrots using a grater or a food processor.
  • Chop the green onions and dice the bell pepper. You want everything to be bite-sized and easy to chew.

Mix the Vegetables

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded green cabbage, shredded red cabbage, shredded carrots, chopped green onions, and diced bell pepper. Use a spatula or tongs to gently mix the vegetables together until they are evenly distributed.

Prepare the Dressing

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, sugar, and celery seed. Mix until well combined. Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

Combine the Dressing with the Vegetables

  • Pour the dressing over the mixed vegetables. Use a spatula to fold the dressing into the vegetables, ensuring every piece is coated evenly.

Chill and Serve

  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap (or transfer to an airtight container) and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This chilling step allows the flavors to meld and the texture to soften slightly.
  • Serve chilled as a side dish or topping for your favorite BBQ meals!

Notes

Cut vegetables uniformly for a better presentation. Adjust sweetness and acidity in the dressing according to personal preference. Let it chill for enhanced flavors.
