Ingredients

Pasta and Base Ingredients

  • 12 ounces your favorite pasta (fusilli, penne, or spaghetti)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14 ounces crushed tomatoes (1 can)
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sugar to balance acidity
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by measuring out all your ingredients. Chop the onion and mince the garlic.

Cooking

  • In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they become translucent.
  • Add the garlic and continue to sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and vegetable broth. Scrape any bits from the bottom of the pot.
  • Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, add the pasta and stir well.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pot. Cook the pasta for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until it is al dente.
  • Stir in the heavy cream, Italian seasoning, and sugar. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  • Remove from heat, and serve the creamy pasta warm. Top with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

Choose short pasta shapes for better sauce absorption. If pasta seems too dry, add more broth. A lighter version can substitute almond milk for heavy cream. Fresh herbs enhance flavor.
