Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 for optimal flavor)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus more for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for a sweeter glaze)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, cheddar cheese, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mix until well incorporated, but avoid overmixing.
  • Transfer the mixture to the baking sheet or loaf pan. Shape into a loaf if using a baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup and brown sugar, if using. Spread this over the top of the meatloaf.

Baking

  • Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  • Remove from oven and allow to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Serving

  • Slice the meatloaf into thick pieces and serve with sides like mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.

Notes

You can prepare the meat mixture a day in advance and refrigerate. Customize cheese and add vegetables as desired.
