Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For a healthier version, substitute half with whole wheat flour.
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Chocolate Chips

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Use high-quality chocolate for best flavor.
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips Optional for variation.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  • Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and, if using, white chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the centers still look slightly soft.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Enjoy

  • Once cooled, enjoy the cookies on their own or with a glass of milk!

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. You can experiment with different mix-ins such as nuts or dried fruit.
