Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Lettuce, for topping
  • Tomato, sliced, for topping

Instructions

  • Divide ground beef into four equal portions and gently roll into balls. Avoid overworking the meat.
  • Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  • Place beef balls on the hot surface and smash each ball to a ½-inch-thick patty.
  • Cook 2–3 minutes until golden-brown. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Flip and cook 2–3 minutes. Add a slice of cheddar to each patty in the final minute to melt.
  • Toast buns on the skillet. Assemble burgers with patty, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes.
  • Rest 1 minute before serving.

Notes

Use 80/20 ground beef for juiciness.
Avoid pressing patties during cooking to retain moisture.
Let patties rest before serving to preserve juices.
Experiment with cheese varieties like pepper jack or gouda.
Customize with toppings (avocado, pickles, sautéed onions).
For halal alternatives, ensure buns are beef-free and cheese is non-animal rennet.
Vegetarian option: substitute ground turkey or chicken.
