Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 slices of bread (thick-sliced preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for cooking)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon, then add to the egg mixture and stir well.
  • In a large skillet or griddle, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Take a slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, coating both sides and allowing excess to drip off before placing it in the skillet.
  • Cook each slice for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Repeat for all slices, adding more butter as needed.
  • Once cooked, serve warm with an additional sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better results without soaking up too much liquid.
Add a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture for an extra layer of flavor.
Let the French toast rest for a minute to become fluffier after cooking.
For a lighter option, substitute non-stick spray for butter.
