Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons non-alcoholic Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ cup ketchup (for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix gently with hands until combined.
  • Spread half the meat mixture in the loaf pan.
  • Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top of the beef layer.
  • Cover with remaining meat mixture to enclose the cheese.
  • Spread ketchup over the top of the meatloaf.
  • Bake for 50 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use lean ground beef for a less greasy result.
For added flavor, mix in ground turkey instead of bacon (pork-free alternative).
Experiment with cheeses like mozzarella or pepper jack.
Avoid overmixing to keep the loaf tender.
Allow cooling before storing to prevent sogginess.
For a healthier version, substitute ground turkey/chicken, use whole wheat breadcrumbs, or add diced vegetables.
