Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, gouda, or a blend)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions
 

  • Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set aside
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then whisk in flour to form a smooth roux
  • Gradually add milk while whisking until mixture thickens (5–7 minutes)
  • Stir in cheese until melted, then add mustard powder, salt, and pepper if using
  • Combine cheese sauce with cooked macaroni in a large bowl
  • Transfer to a baking dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs (if desired), then bake at 350°F for 15–20 minutes
  • Serve warm

Notes

Mix cheese varieties for enhanced flavor—try cheddar, Gouda, mozzarella, or Parmesan
Leave pasta al dente before baking to avoid overcooking
