Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
  • Gradually add the flour, mixing until the dough comes together smooth.
  • Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop out equal portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving ample space between each cookie.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use room temperature butter to ensure even mixing and a chewier texture.
Avoid over-mixing the dough; mix just until the flour is combined to retain softness.
For added flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture.
Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking for better shape retention.
Do not omit parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Substitute half the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier version; use dark chocolate, nuts, or dried fruit.
For a dairy-free option, replace butter with coconut oil or a vegan alternative and use dairy-free chocolate chips.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Freeze in a single layer until solid for long-term storage.
