Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk Can substitute with almond, oat, or coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional for extra chocolate flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate medium bowl, beat the eggs until slightly frothy. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold together. Mix until no dry flour remains.
  • If using chocolate chips, fold them into the batter now.

Cooking

  • Ladle approximately 1/2 cup of batter onto the center of your preheated waffle iron.
  • Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the waffle using a fork or silicone spatula and place on a wire rack to maintain crispness. Repeat with remaining batter.

Notes

For best results, avoid overmixing the batter. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before cooking for fluffier waffles.
