Ingredients
  

Pudding Base

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1.5 cups cold water
  • 1 package instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz)

Topping and Layers

  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped to stiff peaks
  • 1 box vanilla wafers (11 oz)
  • 4-5 pieces ripe bananas, sliced Use ripe but firm bananas to prevent mushiness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and cold water until well combined.
  • Add the instant vanilla pudding mix and whisk for 2 minutes until the mixture begins to thicken.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 5 minutes to allow the pudding to set.
  • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chilled pudding mixture until fully combined.

Assembly

  • In a large serving dish or individual dessert cups, start layering the ingredients: Begin with a layer of vanilla wafers, followed by a layer of sliced bananas, and then a layer of the pudding mixture.
  • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of pudding on top.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften slightly.
  • Before serving, garnish with additional whipped topping or crushed vanilla wafers if desired.

Notes

Chill the pudding mixture thoroughly before folding in the whipped cream for the best texture. Layer the ingredients in a clear glass dish to showcase the beautiful layers. For a lighter version, use low-fat or sugar-free pudding mix and light whipped topping. Brush banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning when making ahead.
