Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3-4 medium bananas) Use very ripe bananas for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt Greek yogurt can also be substituted.

Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Plus extra for topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Mix in the mashed bananas and sour cream until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle a few extra chocolate chips on top for a beautiful finish.
  • Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a healthier version, substitute half the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Add nuts for extra texture or use dark chocolate chips for less sugar. Store in an airtight container or freeze for longer preservation.
