Ingredients

For the Burger Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio recommended) Use at least 20% fat content for juiciness.
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 4 slices cheddar or American cheese
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce Your favorite brand or homemade.
  • 4 pieces burger buns Brioche or sesame seed recommended.
  • Optional toppings Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F / 200°C).
  • In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Avoid overworking the meat to keep the burgers tender.
  • Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, slightly larger than your burger buns (they'll shrink as they cook).
  • Make a small dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking

  • Place the patties on the hot grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on the first side without moving them.
  • Flip the burgers and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the second side.
  • During the last minute of cooking, brush each patty generously with BBQ sauce and place a slice of cheese on top. Close the grill lid to let the cheese melt.
  • Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for 2-3 minutes.
  • To assemble, place each patty on a toasted bun, add extra BBQ sauce if desired, and top with your favorite toppings.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your juicy BBQ burgers!

Notes

Brush BBQ sauce during the last minute of cooking to avoid burning the sugars in the sauce. Store leftover cooked burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For healthier options, substitute with turkey or chicken.
