Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 4 tablespoons butter Divided into two portions for cooking
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • salt to taste
  • cracked black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup caramelized onions Optional garnish
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese For topping
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley For garnish
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper or hot sauce Adjust according to spice preference
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Can substitute with whole milk or Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes and kalamata olives For added flavor and garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Generously season the chicken pieces on both sides with salt, cracked black pepper, and paprika to ensure a well-flavored base.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and sear until golden brown on each side, about 5 to 6 minutes per side. Once browned, remove the chicken and set it aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and honey, stirring and scraping up any browned bits from the skillet bottom to incorporate extra flavor.
  • Return the seared chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over it. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens and the chicken finishes cooking.
  • If using, sprinkle shredded cheese over the chicken. Cover the skillet briefly to allow the cheese to melt smoothly.
  • Garnish with dried parsley and optionally caramelized onions.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in the spices for at least 30 minutes prior to cooking. Use fresh herbs if you have them on hand instead of dried parsley for a fresher taste. Adjust the heat level by adding more or less cayenne pepper according to your preference. Adding vegetables like spinach or bell peppers can enhance the dish’s nutrition while adding vibrant colors.
