Ingredients
  

For the marinade

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken thighs or bone-in for extra flavor
  • 1/2 cup honey the thick, sticky backbone of the sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced fresh is best for that bold aroma
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce regular or low sodium
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar for brightness
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil for cooking
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil for nuttiness
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes for heat, optional
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger for warmth, optional

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and ginger. Mix well.
  • Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and coat them thoroughly. Let them sit for at least 30 minutes, or longer if you have time.

Cooking

  • Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the marinated chicken thighs to the skillet, cooking for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • During cooking, spoon some of the sauce over the chicken for extra flavor.
  • Once cooked, let the thighs rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve over rice or alongside steamed vegetables. Drizzle any remaining sauce from the skillet over the top. For added flavor, garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.
