  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring Adjust the amount to desired vibrancy.

For Dusting

  • As needed cup powdered sugar For rolling the dough before baking.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract and food coloring.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until combined.
  • Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and roll them in powdered sugar.
  • Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • Let them cool before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for about a week. For longer storage, freeze the cookies.
