  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Frosting and Toppings

  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1 cup M&M candies For topping

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  • Gradually stir in boiling water until well combined.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Assembly

  • Once cooled, frost the top of one cake with chocolate frosting, place the second cake on top, and frost the top and sides.
  • Decorate the top with colorful M&M candies.
  • Slice and serve to enjoy the celebration!

Notes

Serve this cake at room temperature for the best taste. It pairs well with milk or vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week. Freezing is also an option for up to 3 months.
