Ingredients
  

Custard Filling

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch For thickening the custard
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Doughnut Batter

  • 1 batch Doughnut batter (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 batch Chocolate glaze Melted, for dipping

Instructions
 

Making the Custard

  • In a saucepan, heat the milk and sugar over medium heat until hot, but do not boil.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, cornstarch, and salt.
  • Slowly whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture to temper the eggs.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook on low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Let the custard cool, then fill the doughnuts using a piping bag.

Finalizing the Doughnuts

  • Dip the filled doughnuts in melted chocolate glaze to finish.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Best served fresh. You can dust them with powdered sugar or serve them with coffee or milk. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Freeze unfilled doughnuts for longer storage.
