Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Filling

  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream For whipping

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the cocoa and vanilla.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool completely.

Filling

  • Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth. Add heavy cream and whip until fluffy.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cooled cake and chill for at least 4 hours.

Notes

Make sure the butter and cream cheese are softened before mixing for a smoother batter. Don't skip the chilling step! This helps the filling set and makes the dessert creamier. Feel free to add a layer of chocolate ganache or whipped cream on top for extra decadence.
