  • 1.5 pounds flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch For coating the beef
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup green onions (for garnish)

Preparation

  • Coat the sliced flank steak with cornstarch in a bowl. Mix until all pieces are covered.
  • Place the coated steak in the slow cooker. Add sesame oil, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir gently to mix the sauce and beef.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 2–3 hours or LOW for 4–5 hours until the beef is tender and the sauce slightly thickened.
  • Stir in the green onions right before serving.

Notes

Serve the beef over steamed rice or noodles and sprinkle with extra sliced green onions. For additional flavor, consider browning the beef before adding it to the slow cooker.
