So when TikToker @naughtyfork shared a video showing how easy it is to make Thanksgiving cupcakes, it’s no wonder the response was overwhelmingly positive.
“Do I make savory cookies for Thanksgiving? Now I do,” wrote one commentator. While the TikToker referred to the cupcakes as appetizers, many disagreed. “That’s not an appetizer…that’s a meal. And I want (five),” joked one admirer. “I would eat this during a meal. (This) looks amazing,” said another. The recipe consists of a honey butter cookie layered with cheese, butter, mashed potato topping and a hearty soup. Finally, a popcorn chicken nugget dipped in honey butter is perched on top.

Make them your own way or find a bakery that will make them for you
While @naughtyfork used a honey butter cookie for her cupcakes, you could always use regular or honey cornbread muffins. Maybe your first thought when you saw the Thanksgiving cookies was “Where’s the stuffing?” In that case, you can make a stuffed muffin instead and fill them with some sauce. Then cover the hole you made it in with the mashed potato topping.
If you’re looking for the savory aspects of a pie but still want something sweet in your Thanksgiving pie, there are options. You can use a sweet potato topping or pieces of candied yam sprinkled on top. Try a pot of cranberry sauce on top instead of soup.
If you don’t feel like making brownies for Thanksgiving but still want to eat them, you’ll be pleased to see that more and more bakeries are embracing the savory pie trend. One such bakery, Bree’s Cakes, made headlines when baker and owner Bree Miller started Soul Cakes and Cupcakes in 2015. Popular with celebrities like Chrissy Teigen and Kevin Hart, Bree’s Cakes is based in Simi Valley, California. Soul Cupcakes are cornbread filled with macaroni and cheese, topped with mashed potatoes, gravy and a piece of fried chicken. The bakery only sells them at Thanksgiving and they sell out every year.
